Friday the 13th

It's Friday the 13th and I'm 50 days no booze! Every day alcohol gets further and further away in the rear view mirror of my life and it's totally cool with me. Yesterday I was renewing my Yoga Alliance membership so I can continue to be a certified yoga teacher, when I saw a promotion for an online Brain Longevity Therapy training course. Brain health and longevity are two primary reasons I decided to live my life without alcohol, so I signed up! The content is digital + self paced. When you get close to taking the final exam, you are teamed up with a real time cohort of peers to discuss material. This program is through the Alzheimer's Research & Prevention Foundation and was created by a diverse team of experts with deep knowledge across medicine, research and  healing. I'm looking forward to getting started tomorrow. This weekend we will be in town in San Diego with just a few casual plans in place, plenty of room to relax and spend my time how I feel like spending it. Work was great this week - nothing particularly good or thrilling happened, but I noticed that my mood was very good and that resulted in my perception of my work week as very good. We were supposed to have Quarterly Business Reviews in person in the San Diego office, however physical plans were cancelled and switched to virtual due to concern over the delta variant. Spending time with my work team in person would have been valuable, however I've narrowed down that professional settings make for the most pressure to drink alcohol - team bonding, party mentality, celebration mentality - all make it very hard to avoid saying yes to shots or sharing bottles of wine. My silver lining for cancelling in person plans (including a box at the Padres baseball game) is that I could protect my sobriety from alcohol more easily by being in my house, behind a screen with no peer pressure.

Last weekend I came home to the best surprise ever - a BOOK from my bff - my love language. She sent me a copy of Martha Beck's Finding Your Own North Star and I've been absolutely captivated with her philosophy and way of approaching life. She has a gift for bringing language to the feelings you find at the intersection of science and spirituality and gives you tactical tools for coming into your life's purpose. Writing feels like a part of my personal purpose or at least a means to support my truth, so here I am. Currently I am sitting in my backyard, in the sunshine, wearing a bikini (sun tanning is my guilty pleasure). We're heading to a pool party in a little bit - TGIF! xoxo maddymo
