Feels Like Summer!

Y'all, I LOVE summer. I could care less about chunky sweaters and I really don't like anything pumpkin flavored, so I can do without all and winter. I've been spending as much time as possible at the beach, swimming in the ocean and just staring out into the endless horizon. After our Tahiti vacation where I enjoyed every second of indulging in all the croissants, dessert crepes and coffee, my mind was in a great place but my body was feeling the effects of all the gluten, sugar and caffeine. As a millennial, it was my duty and obligation to my loyal followers to post constantly about my vacation (LOL). So, I also deleted the Instagram app off my phone for 40 days - I personally like taking breaks from Insta throughout the year, helps knock down your screen time immensely. It's funny how the first ~week I would automatically grab my phone and swipe to where the app was, and then realize the app isn't there so I'd go pick up a book or go back to work or call a friend. You really don't miss out on sh*t when you get off social media. I do enjoy seeing what about 12 people are up to, people who I keep up with regularly via texting or FaceTime anyways... the less I'm on IG the less I shop too, which is great since I'm flexing my Amazonian leadership principle of frugality to save for this wedding. Modern day marital affairs are SO OVER THE TOP - even if you try to keep it as low key as possible. We considered not even having a wedding, but decided this is a great opportunity to get all our friends and family together in once place, and something we'd regret not doing later down the road. Stock grants are a large part compensation at tech companies. When I started in tech 10 years ago I got very sage advice to save those investments for large life moments like buying a house and paying for a wedding. So I do have a nest egg reserved for the occasion. My parents are in town and yesterday I went shopping with my Mom and future sister in law for my wedding dress! We went to Grace Loves Lace in San Diego - an Australian brand with ethical dresses made out of plastic - totally my vibe. I ended up saying 'yes' to the fourth dress! It's everything I have been imaging and pinning on my Pinterest board! My Mom so generously surprised me with paying for the gown, which made me cry instantly. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the price of wedding dresses, but this one is custom made in Australia to fit my measurements and was under budget. The employee who assisted me was so lovely and high energy, and she kept offering my champagne which a few years ago I would have said bring it on! But I toasted my successful shopping trip with some yummy tea. No one's asking if I'm pregnant in a while when I decline a drink! We attended a wedding in Idaho the other weekend and one of our good family friends also stopped drinking. I was chatting with him at the reception over bubbly waters and neither of us misses booze at all. However, we did have sugar hangovers from having at least 4 cookies and s'mores the night before. Being off Instagram for over a month also gave me more time back to power through some great books from the comfort of my hammock. We read two for book club this time around - here are some recs!
