Adulting Across America

This year we are spending the holidays at home in San Diego! The pandemic certainly shifted our plans 2020 holiday season and this year we are spending both Thanksgiving and Christmas in our new home for the first time (cute, adorable milestone - one worth calling out!). San Diego has been home for over a year now and I really do love the lifestyle. My fiance and I have dreamed of moving down here for most of our relationship, we'd fly down from Seattle for a weekend with friends at the beach and try to figure out which companies might be cool to work for in the area, assuming at the time I'd be nearly in my 40s before I'd have the type of seniority at AWS to take a field role in such a desirable part of the country (certain cities are very coveted and have literally no turn over for decades, it's a dream job). HOWEVER, the pandemic and remote work situations enabled us to make the move sooner than later, and we are both extremely happy down here for a variety of reasons! Growing up in the South and moving straight to Texas out of college got me very accustomed to seeing the beautiful glowing sunshine. My six year stint in Seattle was  totally out of my comfort zone and I'm realizing my mental health was really suffering with all the darkness and indoor time. I loved living in Seattle and I miss all of my friendships and community… and there truly is nothing as beautiful has a bright clear sunny PNW day… but see ya later darkness and rain! To each their own! I've loved every city I've lived in and been to in the United States. They are all special and if we all wanted to live in the same place that would just be impossible, so… good thing different strokes for different folks! This country is gigantic though - whenever I talk to European friends about having to function and communicate across so many domestic time zones their heads kind of explode conceptualizing how massive the U.S. is. Most of my family is still in the South, so I'm grateful we have the option to fly coast to coast a few times a year for visits (however - travel is becoming a pretty big nightmare. I used to be in and out of many airports a month and wow it's just not getting any easier to get around, but I do have hope that will change in the near future!) This will also be my first holiday season not drinking alcohol since I was in college so *water glass clink* to that! After almost 6 months off the booze my skin is like reverse aging and blossoming - plump, bright and tight!
